2021- Future World- "Imagination!" Pavilion Major Refurbishment
Despite arguably having got some neglect over the past few years, Imagination! continues to be a classic (though, not the current version of the ride), and perhaps one of the pavilions with the most creative potential. To celebrate the 50th, Epcot will give this pavilion a major makeover. The ride does keep the Imagination Institute theme, as it is a great topic, just not used to its potential in its current versions. The new version is very similar to Mystic Manor in terms of the ride. When the leading Imagination Scientist, fun-loving Dr. Dreamz, is attempting to find the best ways of expanding the Imagination in a dull, future society, Figment pops in when the doctor is away and lets everything loose! Like Mystic Manor, on a trackless ride system, guests travel through different scenes where great special effects show mystical and magical different adventures your creativity can take you on! But, your imagination can also be dangerous too, and the finale scene puts you in a situation where the monsters of your imagination almost take you away, luckily not quite though, since Dr. Dreamz comes in at the right time to stop the Imagination machine and let you carry on with the display. "Figment, Imagination can be a powerful thing, and while we do have to sometimes control it, never let that stop you from running wild with it"
Part of the Imagination refurbishment is a complete "re-boot" of a classic component to the pavilion and Epcot itself- Imageworks. Imageworks is a unique, interactive attraction in the Imagination pavilion filled with different games, immersion and other activities for the whole family. It can be accessed through it's own entrance and gift shop, or by exiting the new Journey into Imagination ride. Now, we invite you to read along the many new exciting ways to explore your Imagination!
When you first exit "Journey Into Imagination", you are on the second floor of the building, up inside the old and once loved section of the pavilion that has been neglected and closed off to the public for years. This space is now finally being put to good use, as a part of the refurbished Imageworks. One element that is dearly missed and was a fan favorite is the Rainbow Tunnel. This is now used as the entrance to Imageworks as the imaginative tunnel transporting you to this place of creativity.

Exiting this tunnel puts you in the grand center of the upstairs portion of the attraction, familiar to many. In this grand area stands the giant artistic statue that was once found here, with a staircase to the bottom level surrounding it, except now with a more colorful feel to it. Also in this area is a small coffee and snack shop and various greenery and theming/flags scattered about, but they all rest inside the beautiful pyramid that represents the pavilion. It has a wonderful view of the rest of the park from up above, and this brilliant piece of architecture even has rainbow spot lights shot up to give the pyramid a new glowing effect from the inside too.
But this isn't all. When you first come downstairs (Or going up, depending on whether or not you are entering Imageworks from the entrance or exit of "Journey into Imagination") you will find yourself in the cleverly themed little gift shop, the mostly white and lots of design filled room, as if it is waiting for creativity to go wild. Just past the gift shop is the downstairs portion of Imageworks. While some may say it is currently just a shell of its former self, here it is just another exciting portion of the greater attraction. It will remain mostly unchanged from how it stands now, except with some new/refurbished activities.
Now, for a description of some of these activities inside of Imageworks:
-Downstairs, many favorites will stay, such as the Stepping Tones, Create a Figment, now with more improvements (below), and Figment's Melody Makers. Also staying will be general interactive lights and optical illusion posters.
-Upstairs, off of the main area, one exhibit will include special kaleidoscopes, where guests can look through and play with to see different colorful worlds, and if you twist it the right way, you can maybe even see special images that nod to classic figures like Figment and Dreamfinder!
-Upstairs will also include the return of two classic Imageworks attractions, these being the Voice Activated Lumia (A large sphere that reacted with color to voices/sounds) and Figment's Coloring Book (Where guests can color in blank could with paint shooters, a very cool effect, now improved with modern technology).
-Another new feature, upstairs, is an exciting activity that has a similar name to the nearby attraction, called "Figment's Dream Playground". Using new projection technology in a larger and darker room with smoke covering the floor (creating the illusion of dreams being in the room), families can play around as different "adventures" are projected into the air. These can include riding a pirate ship, riding a dragon, or flying a blimp! Motion/touch sensors will pick up when someone comes near one of these, and suddenly the whole room becomes this one adventure, and with convincing projection effects, it feels like you have placed in the adventure! This is just another way Imageworks triggers your imagination!
-Create-a-Toon is exactly what you are thinking; you get to create your very own cartoon! Animated in the classic style, guests will be able to pick and choose certain characters and settings from both the parks and the movies, along with a plot from a touch screen. Then, once completed, you can watch a 30 second teaser trailer of it, with the opinion to buy the complete 15 minute short. Costs range from $9.99 for a digital copy, $14.99 for a DVD copy, $19.99 for Blu Ray, and you can add on a Digital Copy to either a DVD or a Blu Ray for an addition $5.
-Create a Figment: This is a massive alteration to the existing Create a Figment, which is a group of touch screens where you design your own Figment and can email the picture to you. Although the general premise remains the same, it has been immensely plussed, fully capitalizing on the My Magic+ technology.
In the Park- Right in the heart of the new and improved Imageworks, Create a Figment will be a must do on your visit to the pavilion. Once you get out of the line (yes, there is a line. It is expected to be very popular with both the young and old), you reach a touch screen, where a familiar fellow will guide you along. First, you start with the base. It does not have to be a dragon like Figment, it is your imagination, after all. There are over 20 bases to choose from, or you can create your own! You would edit the arms, legs, and core. Then, you would go about adding colors, horns, sounds, anything you can imagine. Once you are done, you will be given the option of e-mailing the design to either yourself or family/friend, buying a stuffed animal version (can be generic sized or large), or both. The cost of a stuffed animal ranges from $19.99 to $99.99, depending on features and size. Obviously, you can not get your creation immediately, so after paying at your touch screen (accepts cash, credit cards, and gift cards), you receive a receipt with an expected arrival date of your new friend. The expected wait will be around 1 month due to demand and that these are high quality items, and they will take time to make, and won't be as easy as a generic Mickey doll. On the date you receive it, you will receive a "cage" with your own Figment inside! One special feature is that on a collar, your creation will have a code, which can activate your pal on a brand new website a la Webkinz, called www.FigmentsFriends.com. It will be a large online community where you can chat with fellow Disney fans, take care of your pet, and play fun games!
Before You Go- Another option is to get your Figment so you can have him on your trip. Using My Disney Experience, you will be able to link him with your MM+ account and have him interact with its surroundings in the parks. By inserting an RFID chip inside, it will light up, tell you a neat fact, and pretty be the Pal Mickey that works. Besides that, it is the same as one you would buy in Imageworks.
